Wilton Strickland
Wilton Strickland was born and raised in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. He attended the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, graduating in 1996. Later he attended the University of Virginia School of Law, graduating in 2000 and then returning home to Florida. While in Florida he practiced commercial litigation that covered a wide variety of areas such as international disputes, premises liability, products liability, contracts, and property law.
In April of 2010, Wilton moved to Missoula and began working with Bohyer, Simpson & Tranel, P.C., shortly after taking the Montana bar exam. He passed the exam and is now licensed to practice law in Florida and Montana state courts, the U.S. District Court for Southern District of Florida, the U.S. District Court for the District of Montana, the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
His work at Bohyer, Simpson & Tranel includes insurance defense, insurance coverage issues, and all other areas of the firms practice.
Wilton enjoys writing and has seen his work published on a number of occasions, most recently in the December 2009 issue of the Florida Bar Journal, which ran his article Premises Liability: A Notable Rift In The Law Of Foreseeable Crimes as the Journal’s cover. He is preparing to submit a new article to the Montana Lawyer for publication as soon as he completes his work on a related, ongoing matter before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Given his international background, Wilton was recently selected by the Montana Bar to join a delegation of attorneys that will travel to Cuba in order to analyze its judicial system. Wilton also enjoys helping conduct the annual Jessup Moot Court Competition, which focuses on international law and draws competitors from law schools around the world. Wilton participated in the competition while he was a law student, and he served as a judge for many years after graduating. He now helps coach the University of Montana School of Law team. Wilton speaks Spanish, plays competitive chess, and is an avid skier.
