J. Wayne Capp

J. Wayne Capp grew up on his parent’s cattle ranch in the beautiful Bitterroot Valley of Western Montana. Wayne attended Montana State University in Bozeman, graduating in 1980 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Justice. After a distinguished career of 22 years in law enforcement, Wayne retired from the Montana Department of Justice. He then attended law school at the University of Montana School of Law, graduating in 2005.

While attending law school, Wayne was Assistant Editor-in-Chief of the Montana Law Review. During his law enforcement career, Wayne supervised complex criminal investigations, specializing in financial and white collar crimes. He is a graduate of the F.B.I. National Academy in Quantico, Virginia.

Wayne is admitted to practice before all Montana State and Federal Courts, as well as the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Trible Court. Wayne’s law practice is diverse as his professional accomplishments. In addition to specializing in insurance law defense and general litigation, Wayne practices in the areas of business and commercial law, employment law, estate planning and elder law and governmental relations with an emphasis in gaming, liquor and tabacco regulatory law.

Wayne considers community service to be an important part of his life and volunteers his time to teach bowhunter education for the Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife & Parks. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Missoula-Ravalli Transportation Management Association. He is a past President of the Professional Bowhunters Society. Wayne’s professional associations include the American Bar Association, the State Bar of Montana, the Western Montana Bar Association, the Montana Defense Trial Lawyers’ Association and the F.B.I. National Academy Associates.

When not working, Wayne enjoys a variety of outdoor activities, including fly-fishing, bowhunting, and golf. Wayne’s hobbies include fly-tying and wood-working. Wayne and his wife, Carol, have three children and continue to reside in the Bitterroot Valley south of Missoula.
